It’s almost time for the 2018 Todd Liberty Parade!
Giant puppets, fantastic costumes, banners, flags, food and music in the park – it’s got to be time for the 2018 Todd Liberty Parade! The 13th annual parade will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 4th, in downtown Todd, NC. All are welcome to join the celebration whether you watch the parade or walk in it. Yes, everyone is invited to put on a costume and walk in the parade. More about that later… This is the second year that the Todd Community Preservation Organization (TCPO) is responsible for organizing the parade.
The 2018 Todd Liberty Parade celebrates the birth of America as well as the importance of community. The parade theme this year is Unity Builds Community. Communities are stronger working together towards common goals and we want to celebrate all those who work to build strong communities. The parade will include a variety of giant beads strung together symbolizing how we are all linked together in our communities.
If you’ve never seen the Todd Liberty Parade, you’re in for a treat. This is truly a one-of-a-kind event. Paraders wearing the giant handmade puppets, costumes and props meander through downtown Todd. There are typically as many people in the parade as there are people watching the parade. Both end up making merry together in Cook Park at the end of the parade where the King Bees will provide live music and the TCPO will fire up the grill with hamburgers and hotdogs for sale.
If you want to walk in the parade, please be at the big field at the corner of Todd Railroad Grade Road and Hyw 194 by 10:00 a.m. in order to pick out your costume and line up. All costumes are provided for the duration of the parade. The route is about ¼ of a mile. Parking is available in the field. A $5 donation per car is appreciated.
It takes a lot to put on a parade. Although it is free for all, in order to offset parade expenses and help sustain it for future years, we greatly appreciate any and all donations. Online donations may be made at https://toddnc.org/support/make-a-gift/. Or, checks may be made out to TCPO with Todd Liberty Parade in the subject line and mailed to TCPO, Box 15, Todd, NC 28684. The TCPO is a non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible.
